Wanted to end my KILL LIST review with "visceral head-scratcher." but ran out of room on the page!

This will be my outlet for when I'm feeling lazy reviews...Plus it looks kind of cool. In a few days I'll have AFTER HOURS and PUNCH DRUNK LOVE for you, ha.

You did? I'm so envious! I still haven't seen Tsai's latest [for me at least--there's probably a newer one].

Speaking of Tsai--there was a watermelon sex scene that was in his end of the world film from a few years ago included in the 100 Most Outrageous sex scenes thing I did the other night. People were making comments around during it.

yes! the only one on the shelf i've not seen is called 'visage' --or 'face' -- and it is PAL. finally i can see it. a lot of frenchies involved! there are some tv and shorts on his imdb list not at scarecrow. yes--the watermelon juice instead of water theme from 'the wayward cloud' -- i remember that crazy awkward sex scene! lee kang-sheng rules! fearless!

oh...'visage' is from 2009. i think that's his newest full length.

after hours and punch drunk...both yay!

I miss my region-free player. It gave me five good years of service before dying last year.

still have joshua's old malata -- but now it only plays in black and white! that thing worked for a good long time. not sure when you got it joshua!? my new panasonic is great! TSAI's 'visage' did not disappoint. a movie within a movie, slow, weird, quiet, beautiful long shots, of course some disturbing scenes, a sexual encounter that was intense but completely off-screen, another erotic scene with lee kang-sheng playing john the baptist and a scene where his character looked the most relaxed and happy i think i've ever seen him.

Dang, I'm jealous! I got a lot of use out of the Malata--if I ever move back to Seattle, a new region free will be the first thing I buy due to Scarecrow's choices for that kind of stuff. Kind of a must-have bit of technology.

a few of the scarecrow guys who were there were really excited for me when i bought it!

surely there is a place in LA to rent multi-region?!! you have too many theatre gigs though...you probably wouldn't have time!

Joshua Blevins Peck said...

I'm sure there is, but between Netflix rentals/streamers, the PVLD library collection and all the theatres around me, not sure I want to invest in the time going multi-regional right now. I'll have to live vicariously through you!

well, i'm not as adventurous as you. also...it's been bugging me...it's not a panasonic! another P...a pioneer dv610 av-k. had to get that right!

i did rent a japanese movie with takeshi kineshiro called 'sweet rain' that had a few good moments but all in all was pretty terrible and slow. oh and there was his black lab who had subtitles! i do love takeshi but not so interested in the movies he's in! the best scene was really short. He was bowling and striking out and being told to be more excited about it...so he lifts his arms like 'okay, alright!' silly...

i just realized that the older french actor in tsai's 'visage' is the kid from 'the 400 blows'...jean-pierre leaud. the scene where lee k-s's character is relaxed is when he is talking as the director of the movie they are making...with the french actor who is in it. the french actor has a pet/tame bird with him as well and goes off about great directors and how the little bird is one of them...

Staircase--

He's in WHAT TIME IS IT THERE? too. He's the guy on the park bench from what I remember. It's been awhile on that one.

i want to watch that one again! and 'the hole'! only one i never saw was 'the river'...and i remember being warned by you as to its bleakness, so i'm going to leave that one alone!
