Top5 for 2008!

It's been two years or so since I've gone public with my "Top5." The list can mean anything-- actors/actresses/celebrities you want to run off with for a weekend, have a tryst after coffee, go hang out in the park--whatever. I like to pick the actresses out who I think are talented AND attractive--but that's just me. I also like to include a woman who has been in at least one movie I've watched recently. Here's my updated Top5 for '08--3 of 5 are returnees from last time so I'll start with them.

Rachel Weisz. Rachel is going to be on the list for a long time it seems. The combination of English + incredible eyebrows + great actress is too much for me to ever consider removing her. Unless she goes batty or starts making crap movies, she may challenge Winona Ryder for "longest" time in my Top5. That's what got Ryder booted off the list!

Maggie Gyllenhaal
. Her character in Stranger Than Fiction cemented her to this list for years to come. That was a character I literally fell for a little bit even though I know it was fiction and "not real." As an actress, Gyllenhaal is pretty fearless--watch Secretary or SherryBaby for proof of that--and always lends an honesty to her roles. Plus, she's adorably sexy.

Zooey Deschanel. Another returnee from the previous list and someone who'll be on the list for a while--what can I say, I'm mostly monogamous when it comes to my Top5, ha. Zooey has a record coming out this year that is supposed to be very good and if you've heard her singing you know she has a great voice.

Marisa Tomei. She might have made the last list but might have just missed--either way, she's always around it. Her role in Before the Devil Knows Your Dead shot her back onto this list like a rocket. Watch the movie and you'll know what I'm talking about, ha. I've been into her since A Different World in 1987--I told you I'm loyal! By the way, I do NOT subscribe to "Mr. Skin," I just googled Marisa Tomei photos and went to a few of the top links on google. Although, that site did have some nice photos of her, ha.

Amy Adams. I've long been a fan of her work as she's done a lot of quirky, solid, unseen stuff over the years. The past couple of years she's broke out into the bigtime--Junebug, Talladega Nights, Charlie Wilson's War and Enchanted. And the red hair doesn't hurt her in Top5 consideration either!

Put Winona back on the list!!!! She has some good films coming out! Maybe then you'll put her back on!

I'm going to to an "all-time" Top5 list soon--Winona will be on that one probably c. early 90s...

I wish she would make a comeback as I heart 'Nonie, ha.

Guy Gadbois said...

What, no Madonna?

Also, why don't you have t-shirts printed up stating "Winona stole my heart."

Wow, great minds think alike! All great picks for the list.

I'm certainly gonna have to put some more thought into mine, but here is a tentative list (in no particular order):

Maggie Gyllenhaal - Secretary and Stranger Than Fiction cinched it for me, to the point that now I can't look at Peter Saarsgard without wanting to punch him in a jealous rage.

Amy Adams - I would gladly honor the restraining order if she would just read it out loud to me in that beautiful voice of hers.

Zooey Deschanel - For me, attitude is everything, particularly the kind of sarcastic and downright sexy demeanor she had in Almost Famous, Big Trouble, and Elf.

Julianne Moore - Short Cuts, Big Lebowski, Children of Men, 'nuff said.

Lucy Davis - The Office (British version), Shaun of the Dead and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I'm a sucker for that accent.

Replicant said...

Fritsche--I'm with you about Saarsgard, evertime I see him I'm thinking you are not worthy you bastard!

Uncle Joe said...

Charlize Theron-perennialister.
Zoey is a good choice.

Yvonne from Chuck.....oh my....

have to get back to you on the other ones....

Grainfield Reunion 2008: She Broke My Heart.

I had my Top 5 post ready a few weeks ago, but I had to fix something and forgot to get back to it...I'll try to get it up later today.

Replicant said...

Almost making my list: Emily Mortimer, Marketa Irglova, Sanaa Lathan, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vera Farmiga, Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson and Marion Cotillard.

That Zooey Deschanel has an album coming out could so far be the best news of this year. Her voice is amazing. Also, you need to check out Anna Friel. She stars on Pushing Daisies (when it is on) and she is your type.

As for my list...I had a hard time finding people worthy to put on there. Too picky or are the pickins slim?
Edgar Ramirez - someone that will be on the list for a while
Jason Statham - always on the list even with Crank on his resume
Eric Szmanda - aka Greg Sanders, CSI
Anthony Bourdain
Gerald Butler

I also want to include an Honorable Mention. Javier Bardem, without his Prince Valiant haircut the man is attractive

Okay, I have my Top 5 up. They are:

Zach Galifianakis
John Krasinski
James McAvoy

gael garcia bernal (usually always at #1!)
most recent film i saw with him was "sin noticias de dios" (american title - don't tempt me)
he is just too good! and speaks spanish! (i adore it when he speaks english as well!)

takeshi kineshiro (bumped past others last fall, um stay tuned for more on that...)
re-watched "shi mian mai fu" (american title - house of flying daggers)
love him in all the few things i've ever seen him in!

rhys ifans (goofball romantic!)
last film with him was "enduring love" where he played a homicidal psycho! everyone should watch "danny deckchair"!

ewan mcgregor (longstanding affair we have...!)
the last thing i saw him in was that motorcycle across the world doc he did with his friend!

don cheadle (first timer!!!)
"oceans 13" did it for me over the holidays -- he is one of the only american actors i can think of who does amazing accents!

mine has only changed by one...i dropped diego luna for don cheadle. i seem to have very long relationships with my top 5!

ps - johnny depp is always lurking down there below #5 somehow...but i haven't watched anything with him in it for years, or rather the few i did see, didn't do anything for me to warrant bumping off anyone else!

i will also add...that last fall, one night i realized that the true way for me to know whether an actor is or is not on the top 5 is the ability to have a lovely masturbatory shower with them...ha!

uh, duh...sorry i didn't hot up the imdb links...guess i can't just copy and paste!

That list always changes for me. I don't get to the movies too often these days. But here are 5 current favorites (in no specific order):

-Rosario Dawson
-Katherine Heigl
-Sarah Carter

Replicant said...

Now we're getting somewhere with lots of lists...

Scarlett is indeed a popular choice again this time around and Hidden Staircase gets dirty, ha.

Addendum to my earlier list:

I don't care that this is a top 5 list, I'm making it 6.

I have to begin by giving credit to my favorites from a few years back so as to not forget about them—hey, history is important.
Top “few” from 10 years ago:
Matt Damon
Ethan Hawke
Pierce Brosnan
Val Kilmer
Johnny Depp
Will Smith

2008 Top 5 (Yeah, I know, not very creative):
Mark Wahlberg
Adrian Grenier
Jesse Metcalf
Josh Lucas
Matt Damon

I also had to pick my Top 5 (well, 6) people you may not have heard of:
Chace Crawford (on Gossip Girl)
Jay Hernandez (in Crazy/Beautiful and was on the short-lived show Six Degrees)
Adam Beach (on Law & Order: SVU and a bunch of movies I unfortunately haven’t seen)
Oliver James (in What A Girl Wants)
Will Yun Lee (James Bond bad guy for the first 5 minutes of Die Another Day)
Michael Mahonen (was in one of my favorite shows, way back when, called “Avonlea”)

Runners up (because I’m indecisive):
Eric Dane & Patrick Dempsey (obviously I’m a Grey’s Anatomy fan)
James Todd Smith (a.k.a. L.L. Cool J)
Owen Brothers (no I can’t pick between them, depends on my mood)
Rob Lowe
Ray Liotta
