UTW review of Nine/layoff

Sorry for the long layoff. Went on a nearly 3,000 mile road trip from Tulsa to the Atlantic Ocean. Just got back late, late last night.

Go here if you want to read my negative review of the musical Nine. I even do something that I hate to do--ridicule Daniel Day-Lewis!

Loved your review in UTW. It made me follow my inclination to stay away. The "increasingly plasticine Kidman" comment was right on. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Larry: Thanks. I was thinking of a way to comment about Kidman's changing facial structure and not have it removed when the word "plasticine" came to mind. Glad it stayed. Not sure why she is doing what she is doing to her face. Lots of actresses do the same though.

I can't believe someone else knows about Eversmile, New Jersey. I didn't think Day-Lewis was bad, and I actually enjoyed this more than Chicago. I know I'm in the minority on that one, but I found Chicago to be very boring.

Rumblefish: maybe I liked Chicago more as I thought the songs were better (I actually had seen it on Broadway in the early 2000s).

I just wanted to take a few jibes at DDL and didn't really deliver in full-on DDL mode like I've come to expect from him. It's definitely a lesser moment from his career though but at least he didn't wait 5 years to do another film and he tried to do something he hadn't done before now.

your bad review was entertainment itself, especially the line 'i hope i never have to see kate hudson sing a song again'...LOL...and that DDL looked to have severe stomach cramping. i'm with you...WHY did he do it? a challenge i suppose...to do something completely different? i have to say the more i see p. cruz, the more i like her, but i won't see it just for her. you are good, funny writer josh!
