The Man Who Knew Too Much

Now this is a good poster! In 1956 Alfred Hitchcock remade his 1934 film of the same name in VistaVision and Technicolor! How could you not like anything filmed in "VistaVision"? Class, pure class.

ps - did you watch in a theatre?

No--it was part of the PVLD monthly "Classics at Noon" film series. I filled in for a co-worker to talk about it and screen it. That's a fun way to spend three hours at work--watching and talking about a movie and get paid for it!

I love Doris Day. I get dirty looks sometimes when I say that, but oh well. And I have quite a few of her albums.

Hitchcock saw her in "Storm Warning" (also starring Ginger Rogers and Ronald Reagan) and then wanted Day for his movie.

I mentioned to the group Day didn't want to sing "Que Sera, Sera" and it ended up winning an Oscar.

so cool you did this at work! is there a little screening room? i mentioned this to janet and she said she actually likes the original version from the 30s because it's darker. said she watched them back to back once. still...jimmy stewart!

Hitchcock said he thought the second was better made, but he too liked the first better because it was rawer.

We showed this one in the teen "Annex" that has a little screen in there. For the Cine-Monde film series that I do--we show those in a community type room and have 70 people show up to those screenings. Post-film discussion lasts 25-30 minutes!

love Jimmy Stewart in almost everything. I enjoyed the original but Jimmy's acting does elevate this version. Of course Hitchcock is genuis. I find Doris Day tolerable in this version and while she won the oscar for Que Sera Sera - I thought it was an extraneous moment in the film but obviously "Ocsar" didn't agree :-) Now I'll have to run out and rent again and enjoy :-) Janet - Seattle

I'm not a fan of Day that much either, but I've only really ever seen her in this and a few of the comedies. But, Jimmy Stewart pretty much can do no wrong in my book.
